Studio Sejauh unveils a special collection at Senayan City Fashion Nation 18th Edition
On September 25, 2024, Sejauh Mata Memandang, through the collaborative space Studio Sejauh, unveiled a special collection at the Senayan City Fashion Nation 18th Edition. Studio Sejauh is a creative and collaborative space that brings together people across the textile supply system, from farmers and artisans to designers and consumers, to collaborate and create meaningful impact.
The presentation brought together 20 looks designed in collaboration with partners Craft Denim, Sekar Kawung, Mugi Batik, CV RABERSA, and Shibiru. Each piece carried Sejauh’s signature balance of timeless design and artisanal craftsmanship.
The silhouettes ranged from long dresses, casual tops, wrap skirts, trousers, outerwear, and jackets, paired with accessories like bandanas, bucket hats, and bags featuring Sejauh’s iconic ‘Ayam’ motif, presented in a natural palette of brown, white, and indigo.
Beyond design, the collection emphasized the origins and transformations of its materials, highlighting natural fibers and traditional craftsmanship:
• Pineapple Leaf Fiber was sourced from agricultural waste in Prabumulih, South Sumatra. The pineapple leaves were processed by CV RABERSA in Wonosobo, Central Java, spun into yarn, and woven into fabric using jacquard weaving by Mugi Batik in Pekalongan, Central Java. This process highlights how agricultural byproducts can be elevated into valuable textiles.
• Ramie Fiber, harvested and processed into yarns by CV RABERSA, then woven by Mugi Batik using jacquard techniques, creating strong yet soft fabrics suitable for modern wear.
• Brown Cotton (Bronesia Cotton) was harvested by Sekar Kawung’s partner farmers in Kerek, Tuban, East Java, spun into yarn, and woven into jacquard fabrics by Mugi Batik. Its natural brown hue eliminates the need for dyeing, offering both beauty and responsibility.
• Handwoven Denim was crafted from cotton grown in Tuban, handwoven into denim by Craft Denim in Pekalongan, Central Java, and dyed with plant-based indigo from Strobilanthes cusia, processed by Shibiru in Temanggung, Central Java.
• Batik Cap ‘Ayam’ Motif was hand-stamped by Mugi Batik and dyed with plant-based indigo by Shibiru, carrying Sejauh’s iconic symbol of timelessness.
This presentation was more than a fashion show. It was a collective effort that connected every part of the textile supply system. By working together, the initiative reflects a vision for Indonesia’s clothing sovereignty through collaboration, creativity, and making impacts.
