Sejauh Mata Memandang Presents 'Dari Bumi, Untuk Bumi' and a Special Collaboration with Adrian Gan

Following a three-month collaborative exhibition with contemporary artist Eko Nugroho, we return to The Space, Level 2, Plaza Indonesia with a new initiative. The exhibition, titled Dari Bumi, Untuk Bumi (From the Earth, For the Earth), runs from 28 May to 31 July 2025. Carrying the theme Caring for What Exists, Growing What’s New, the exhibition invites #SahabatSejauh to take a closer look at the journey behind each textile and garment, reflecting our awareness of the environment, collaboration with people, and respect for the Earth.

We openly share the materials we use, from natural fibers like cotton and linen to fabric innovations using upcycled and recycled materials that are repurposed into new designs, as part of our effort to minimize waste. Through a series of visual displays, we share how our motifs come to life using techniques such as hand-drawn batik, hand-stamped batik, hand-screen printing, and digital printing, as well as coloring methods that include plant-based dyes and OEKO-TEX® certified synthetic dyes chosen for their lower impact on people and the planet.

#SahabatSejauh will also find the natural fibers from our garments, including cotton, ramie, and pineapple leaf fibers. These are planted, harvested, spun, and woven into clothing through partnerships with farmers, artisans, and local businesses across Indonesia, initiatives that form the foundation of Studio Sejauh. In addition, the exhibition introduces our circular programs such as KEMBALI BAIK with MULIH, which repairs and extends the life of garments, and DAUR, a collection made from upcycled fabric scraps.

We also share the process behind our post-consumer clothing recycling with EcoTouch, which has been ongoing since 2021. With the support of #SahabatSejauh, we collect worn-out clothes, which are then spun into yarn by EcoTouch and woven into fabric by artisans such as Craft Denim and Mugi Batik in Pekalongan, Central Java. At the exhibition, #SahabatSejauh can participate directly by dropping off your own worn-out clothes into our donation box.

As part of “Dari Bumi, Untuk Bumi”, we are also launching a limited collaborative collection with fashion designer Adrian Gan, following our previous collaboration at Plaza Indonesia Fashion Week 2024. Titled Antaratantrya, a combination of the Sanskrit words Anantara (without limits) and Svatantrya (freedom), the collection reflects our shared belief in free expression that remains mindful of the Earth. Together with Adrian, we explored clothing that is comfortable, adaptable, and gender-neutral, made with materials such as jacquard with the Muara motif from 100% recycled yarn, handwoven denim with plant-based indigo dye, leftover production fabric, Ayam motif jacquard, and kerancang embroidery.

For us at Sejauh Mata Memandang, clothing is more than a finished product, it’s the result of a long and thoughtful journey that involves nature, people, and cultural heritage. Through Dari Bumi, Untuk Bumi, we want to invite #SahabatSejauh to reflect on how our choices, what we wear, how we care for it, and how long we keep it can all become part of a more responsible way of living.
