Sejauh Mata Memandang Presents the “ARUNA” Collection at Harper’s Bazaar Chinese New Year 2025

On January 8, 2025, we introduced our ARUNA Collection at Harper’s Bazaar Chinese New Year 2025, held at Orient8 Restaurant, Hotel Mulia Senayan, Jakarta. “Aruna” is derived from a Sanskrit word meaning dawn or reddish light—symbolizing a fresh start. In Lunar New Year traditions, red represents good fortune and joy, guiding the spirit of this collection.

We showcased 29 looks inspired by Peranakan and Malay heritage, including touches of kebaya encim and silhouettes reminiscent of Betawi attire. Bold reds, along with bright hues like yellow and green, bring vibrant energy to each piece. We used handwoven silk, Sengkang weave, denim from recycled yarn dyed with natural sappan wood, and cotton batik made through hand-drawn and stamped techniques. Some garments reuse leftover fabrics through patchwork, finished with embroidery or kerancang (cutwork) on tulle, linen, and cotton—reflecting our circular approach while preserving cultural roots.

Explore the ARUNA Collection and discover pieces that honor tradition, craft, and fresh beginnings. We look forward to celebrating these moments with you.
