Sejauh Mata Memandang x Eko Nugroho Presents Fashion Exhibition at Plaza Indonesia
The worlds of fashion and art synergize once again in an exclusive exhibition that brings together the creativity of Sejauh Mata Memandang and contemporary artist Eko Nugroho. Located at The Space, Plaza Indonesia, Level 2, the exhibition is held from February 20 to April 30, 2025.
Designed by Felix Tjahyadi, this exhibition continues the collaboration titled “Republik Sebelah Mata”, first introduced at DEWI Fashion Knights (DFK) 2024 during Jakarta Fashion Week (JFW) 2025. Here, visitors are invited to take a closer look at 25 designs presented on the runway, now explored in a more intimate and explorative experience of art and fashion.
Chitra Subyakto, Founder and Creative Director of Sejauh Mata Memandang, said, "We wanted to create a space for everyone to not only see the designs, but also understand the story behind each piece, the creative process, and the artisans and partners who contribute to it."
Eko Nugroho, known for his thought-provoking visual language, emphasizes that art should not be confined to galleries or canvases but should also be present in everyday life. He said, "Through this collaboration, I want to invite more people to see art in various forms. Fashion is a medium that is close to our daily lives, and I want to show that art can live on our bodies.”
Stepping into the exhibition, visitors are greeted by a special installation of the signature patterned carpet from the Sejauh Mata Memandang x Eko Nugroho, made by Fio Carpet, which is produced by utilizing organic material from palm kernel shells, an environmentally conscious alternative replacing fossil fuels.
Further inside, a curated retail space offers a selection of SMM and DGTMB by Eko Nugroho products, available for purchase during the exhibition. A closer look will reveal limited-edition hand-drawn batik textiles, shawls, and scarves from the limited edition Sejauh Mata Memandang x Eko Nugroho collection adorning the walls.
At the heart of the exhibition, mannequins dressed in garments from the Sejauh Mata Memandang x Eko Nugroho collaboration stand against a backdrop of Eko Nugroho’s paintings, curated by ROH Project. The experience is further enhanced by an audiovisual installation supported by Samsung TV and audio.
In a quiet corner, “Ruang Malam”, represents the darkest side of life. It features three all-black outfits born as a creative response to injustice, sorrow, disappointment and resistance.
Plaza Indonesia, as the host venue, supports the exhibition initiative. Zamri Mamat, Deputy Chief Marketing Officer of Plaza Indonesia expressed his appreciation. "We hope this exhibition inspires visitors and enriches their art and fashion experience. Plaza Indonesia is not just about luxury but also home to quality and impactful local brands like SMM," said Zamri Mamat.
Warm support also came from TACO and Fio Carpet, whose materials align with SMM’s commitment to circularity. Other support also came from City Vision, Samsung, CVP, and Urban Quarter who helped bring the exhibition to life with interactive elements and engaging visual storytelling.
This collaboration is more than a display of fashion and art—it invites visitors to see fashion as a form of expression and a reflection of society.
The exhibition is open to the public until April 30, 2025, at Plaza Indonesia.
