Sejauh Family: Silvianti Dewi

The Sejauh family sharing their story today is the family of Silvianti Dewi, affectionately known as Sisil. She’s here to share her family’s experiences with Sahabat Sejauh, hoping that these stories can inspire others. Sisil’s family has been a long-time admirer of Sejauh Mata Memandang, with each family member owning more than one piece from the collection. They truly love Sejauh's products. Curious about their journey and the pieces Sisil and her family cherish? Let’s dive into their story below!

For the Sisil family, quality time means being fully present in the moment, without distractions. It’s about enjoying simple activities like riding a motorcycle together, joking around, driving aimlessly while singing, or even lying down reading a book together. While they love traveling and trying new foods, Sisil realizes that what truly matters is not the destination but the people they’re with and how they savor each moment, step by step.

One of the most significant memories was when Sisil’s husband went to the UK for his studies in Birmingham. Sisil resigned from her job to accompany him, bringing their 9-month-old child along. Although it was a challenging experience, it also felt like a holiday because they truly enjoyed their time together. They traveled to various cities across the UK, like London, Manchester, Liverpool, and Bath, as well as European countries like Turkey, Spain, and Portugal. Despite the challenges of traveling with a baby, there were many perks—free tickets, tours, and special treatment at certain places. Sisil knew that her child wouldn’t remember these moments as a baby, so she made sure to capture them in photos and videos. Her hope is that one day, her child will look back at the memories and feel the joy of those travels.

The Sisil family owns several Sejauh Mata Memandang pieces that they’ve worn during special moments. There are matching outfits for Sisil and her husband in “Semanggi”, “Ombak Laut”, and “Wiji”

Their child owns dresses in “Timun Mas” and “Siguguk” patterns. They also have matching family outfits in “Flora Wiji” turmeric. Sisil purchased these in June 2022, though they haven’t worn them yet. They plan to wear them for Lebaran this year, coinciding with their trip to Japan.

Their love for Sejauh Mata Memandang’s diverse patterns and colors makes it hard to choose a favorite. Sisil and her family aim to collect all the designs and colors over time, purchasing at least one piece each year. If possible, they’d love to get the “Tambal” collection in green or blue, along with the iconic “Ayam” collection.

Since returning from the UK, Sisil and her husband’s perspective on life has changed in a few ways. The first change was how they view shopping, especially clothes. They realized they didn’t need so many clothes—while they used to buy several items every month, now they buy only a few each year, focusing on what’s truly needed and loved. Quality over quantity. If new clothes go into the wardrobe, something old is given away to those in need.

Living in the UK without a car made them realize how practical public transportation can be. Even after returning to Indonesia, they didn’t buy a car for several years, but eventually, they purchased one due to the pandemic, seeking a safer mode of transport.

Another change is bringing their own water bottles. They started this out of necessity in the UK, where bottled water was expensive. They could refill their bottles with tap water for free, and this habit has continued ever since.

Finally, Sisil and her family are committed to minimizing waste. They collect recyclable waste and send it to Mpok Sapu for sorting before it’s taken to the recycling bank. Organic waste is discarded in the biopori in their front yard. These small actions, part of their daily life, are Sisil’s way of helping make the world a better place.
