Sejauh Mata Memandang Featured on NHK World Japan’s Asia Insight
We are grateful to be featured on NHK World Japan’s Asia Insight in an episode titled Innovating Sustainable Fashion: Indonesia.
The episode follows our founder, Chitra Subyakto, and the story of Sejauh Mata Memandang. It begins with her dream of reimagining batik and kebaya into pieces we can wear every day, and continues with our journey of giving longer life to materials through circular practices. You’ll see how we walk together with artisans, work with local cotton farmers, and explore natural fibres and traditional techniques; always looking for ways to create with more care.
Chitra also shares the turning point that opened our eyes to the impact of waste, and how collections like DAUR (Upcycled) became our way of making sure leftover fabrics are given a second life.
The programme takes you behind the scenes of our fashion shows, pop-ups, and exhibitions, as well as into our everyday work with a team made up mostly of women.
As Chitra said, “The future is circular. Our future is circular.”
